Otter i.e. saaruvas, čeevres in the old
language, lives in the hollows of the lake and river banks in the wintertime.
Often, you can see this clever swimmer fishing by the stream of the river. At
times, the otter climbs on the snow and might roam far away from its water
habitat, leaving behind a deep tail trail in the snow.
Especially, young otters are playful. It’s fun to watch them when they joyfully dive into the snow and when they slide down the slippery slopes and banks.
Saukko

Saukko eli saaruvas, vanhassa kielessä čeevres, asustelee talvisin järvien ja jokien varsilla rantatörmien onkaloissa. Tuon taitavan uimarin voi usein nähdä jokivarsien virtapaikoilla kalastelemassa. Toisinaan saukko nousee myös lumen päälle ja vaeltaa joskus kaukanakin kotivedestä, jättäen perässään syvän hännänuran lumeen.
Varsinkin nuoret saukot ovat leikkisiä ja niitä on mukava seurata, kun ne sukeltelevat riemuissaan lumihangessa ja saattavat laskea myös mäkeä liukkaassa rinteessä.
