Sakari Topelius' The Birch and the Star

Do you remember my NewTapestryProject I started at the end of 2018? It has been a long way but by now I have finished it, sew something of it and already sent it away. It was a long way to go because it turn out there was not enough original threads left. It also turn out I didn't like the design and after re-thinking it quite a lot I discovered what I had to do with it. Now I love it! The design is old and traditional Finnish design. I designed the bag.

It is all hand made with love by me!

Yes, I indeed made a bag of it. The bag has a proper pocket inside.

The strap has recycled buckle.

The bag is padded so it is suitable also for a laptop. The faux leather is left over from my massage table upholstering project.

I discovered that I get excellent and modern touch by using DMC Étoile Mouline Special Stitch With The Stars thread. So, in practical I stitched this tapestry project twice.

But still it all was worth of it. DMC Etoile gives a great expression for the project. It gives it the shine of hope the story written by Sakari Topelius describes.

The story is called The Birch and the Star. It is a fictional story but is inspired by his family history. It tells about siblings and their journey back home.

Do you remember another bag I made by using tapestry project?

BraveGuard

I stitched Lisa Reakes' design from The World of Cross Stitching (issue190, page 58-61). This is a part of her Interactive Cards design which is meant to be stitched on Aida and Perforated Paper. I stitched it all on 9 count Aida by loose end threads. I also have an idea what this will turn out...

WrapUpWarm

I stitched this Joanne Sanderson's North wind design on Charles Craft Stardust 14 count Aida (silver dusted). You can find the design from Cross Stitcher magazine (December 2005, page 61-63). I used DMC loose end threads. I have an idea what this design will turn out...

PaddedSpeakerCase

I need a Bluetooth Speaker at work. It must be small but professional. I carry it around so I need also a padded case for it so I designed one. In my blog there's tutorial how to make a padded fabric if you don't have one you like.

It is quite easy at the end. And much cheaper too...

This time I used some left over fabric and this cute left over sewing thread.

I used the speaker to make the exact size.

Here you can find out how to sew the corners to make a good fit.

The case needs to be easy to open and close.

But it also needs to keep my speaker in when I want.

Jars

Do you have glass jars, loose end threads and some time?

Why not to crochet cans to hold your hooks, knitting needles or pens?

These are my own design but totally determined by the loose end threads I inherit 10 years ago. These yarns are perhaps over thirty years old and from my grand mother's old craft stash.

Cross-Eyed Kitty

YoungLady started this years ago when she wanted to try out some tapestry work. Now I finished it for her as a secret project. We'll see how this secret project will go on and what it will turn out at the end.

This is Dimensions Craft's Cross-Eyed Kitty (7206) kit / design. It is the first ever tapestry design I have stitched with back stitches and long stitches.

SpoonBookmark No2

I designed and made another bookmark of GermanSilver (alpacca).

The one I made before is decorated with the spirit of whirlwind in snowfall.

This one is personalized by initials.
