Landing to Yule

 

Enjoying tea from the Advent Calendar a faraway friend sent for me. These moments are so delightful and cherished, not to mention very important ones to give some time for me to relax and write a small poem for you and me.

We all have our dreams. One of mine was -since I was a child- to have a garden of my own. Ten years ago at spring that dream finally came true. Slowly, year by year, with low budget, we've been creating it to be an excellent kitchen garden. Today we can -again- enjoy the harvest with honest & great gratitude. Despite it has been quite bad harvest this year we are very much self-contained with our garden. Unfortunately bad harvest means we can't share it with friends which we usually do.

Why we have a bad harvest? May was warm but at the very end of it we were hit by a bad storm. The forest behind us looked like the trolls had a war in there. After that the summer has been pretty chilly -even to us- and we even had frost at early August. Also, the summer has been the driest in 70 years. Climate change causes the extreme weather conditions. Storms don't belong to our May. We still see the results all around the nature. The bird hunting season has started but in May the winds and floods washed away the nests and our vulnerable arctic nature could not cover the damage in these few months to arrange the birds to nest again.

Now we are knocking at autumn's door. It is -with the winter- my favorite season.

This my own cross stitch design has a tiny poem with a big meaning. It is a bit difficult to translate my poem but it reminds you about the importance of the ordinary daily life and the fact that happiness is born from it.

Sunshine

This saying courages you to "Give the sun the time to shine". It is my own design and stitched on pale yellow aida fabric with the theme of my dear yoga hobby. Also with this I used photo stitch method to help to create the finished design.

Dreams

This is my own first ever photo stitch design. I started to work with this already before I had a soft ware for it. It is about a dog who understands: "If I could have it all, I could not dream..."

Unconditional Love

Unconditional love doesn't mean undiciplined kids. In love too there are always the rules that form out a safe fence around people who are in the circle of love.

This my own design reminds us how important it is to protect our love ones in the rain. No matter you'd be just fine on your own, it is important to feel you are not alone.

Good Manners

This my own design has decorated MyKitchen for years. It reminds us all always to say Thank You. Every time it is not possible, sometimes you forget but it is a good guidline through our lives.

Rush Slow

This snail figured sayings advices you to reach your goal by slow but determined. When you go forward you need to see what is ahead; or at your side. It is my own design.

Believe in miracles

This my own design courages you to believe in miracles. It is humorous with an important saying. The design includes three pictures. You can frame them all together or as individual pieces. I designed them to be like a cartoon.

Tree&Roots

This is my own design. It is one from the sayings collection. It says: The Tree is Nothing Without The Roots - Roots are Nothing Without The Tree. This is MyFirst ever project with special DMC threads. It was very difficult but I learnt a lot when stitching it.

AfterTheNight...

This is my own design AfterTheNight... after the night is morning and it's different on the morning. In this design I wanted to create the hope a new dawn brings. If there is no dawn the light can be seen during the polar nights in many different ways. We always have the moon to shine our way; or Northern Lights.

(For this project I used 16 count black Aida and 4 shades of DMC thread for the stitching plus 5th shade for the text.)

BeFaithfulFriend

During the years I have designed a collection of sayings and stitched them to be true. I used photo stitch method to create this beautiful project BeFaithfulFriend. He is the very first dog of MyOwn. I learnt so much with Him & His Brains & Attitude. He was extremely strong minded and had more "sisu" in Him than you can meet in a person.

Time goes by

It's true that sometimes time goes by slowly and on the other moment it just seems to fly away. We have our busies, troubles and cheerful moments. But craft stays the same.

It's incredible when you meet an old friend, sit down for a chat and then you notice you're back to the same old business -craft, craft and craft. But it's good and healthy. And very interesting. Soon you know what she's been doing and she knows what you have been doing. Then you crash at the fact that her news are different than yours and you end up writing notes about websites, shops, magazines etc. That's the best gossip ever -where to get new ideas, materials, designs etc. I would not change that to the information about my neighbours private live tough I live quite there that would be called countryside. :)

What I've done lately is a special wedding gift for special persons with special words wrote by me just for them. Also the design is my own. It's made on 14ct Silver Flecked Aida. It includes special metallic and variegated threads and basic stranded cotton threads. There's many different kind of pearls included and tons of love and care. It's 50 hours of work from idea to the finished project. It is pictured with a background board covered by silk paper. But it is there just for the package, on the wall it will be hang without the board behind. Because it's for a marriage it includes many kind of elements. There's daily cross stitches, but also back stitches, French knots and some other more rare embroidery stitches which demanded a lot of patience and skill even from me.
