OOW Mittens No1

I designed and knit mittens for myself. I used loose end yarn from my own design WaterGrassVest project. These mittens match well with the vest. I am knitting woollen gloves to wear under these mittens. It is going to be something extra warm for my hands for the next winter. I used our own OOW yarn. (25% arctic dog wool and 75% Finnsheep wool) (100g = 220m) This is not fast fashion. It is slow craft and FashionNOW.

RainbowMittens No1

Only in January 2026 I was learning Shepherd's crochet. And by MayDay 2026 I was having a workshop about it at annual Rovaniemi Craft Expo because of my job together with all the community colleges of Lapland. Each college had their own workshop around the same table. Next year I'll be there again. Next year the annual Craft Expo in Rovaniemi Lapland will be held 17.-18.4.2026. I will be there again on Saturday 17.4. showing up some other artisan work. You are always welcome to pop in and chat. We don't sell anything, we share only the information. There will be also craft/artisan small business to sell their products.

I designed and made these beautiful RainbowMittens No1 for the show in Rovaniemi. I used Novita 7 veljestä yarn (80 % wool, 20 % polyamide) (100 g = 200 m) for both blue and rainbow yarn. They are made by Shepherd's crochet.

AAW Mittens No10

I have fell in love with this new method Shepherd's crochet I learnt only in this year in January. Just few weeks ago. In January I made similar looking pair of mittens but in green shades. Actually they differ from each other. I designed the difference in increasing the stitches. Both are slim fit designs to be able to use these mitten under bigger ones to create more warmth when needed. Or, when it's warmer they are perfect to be used on their own.

I used our own AAW yarn (50% our own ethic produced arctic angora wool, 40% ethic produced FinnSheep wool and 10% nylon) (100g = 238m). I plant dyed the yarns with coffee and tea. It is ethic and sustain produced wool and dye. It is a slow craft. And they are FashionNOW.

I designed and knit also this pair of AAW mittens. I used plant dyed (coffee) AAW yarn (50% our own ethic produced arctic angora wool, 40% ethic produced FinnSheep wool and 10% nylon) (100g = 238m). 

AAW Mittens No7

I designed and knit this pair of AAW mittens. I used plant dyed (saskatoon and coffee) AAW yarn (50% our own ethic produced arctic angora wool, 40% ethic produced FinnSheep wool and 10% nylon) (100g = 238m). 

SalmonChiengora

I designed and knit these traditional style mittens. First I collected the dog wool (chiengora), then I spun with Liinu the 100 % arctic dog wool yarn (Aran). After that I went into the woods to pick up mushrooms to plant dye the yarn. Only after that I was able to start the knitting. 

I designed also a special style scarf and knit also it. After finishing also the scarf I needed to wait a day with a bit of snow and light to be able to make these photos for you to show it. It really has been what we call the slow craft!

They make a great matching pair. And for sure they are extremely warm. They also include the wool from our dear dogs and the attitude of FashionNOW. Really local and eco-friendly clothing.

The shades are beautiful Salmon and Pale-Salmon. Plant dye is fun because at the end all the yarns and individual plants act in a different way!

YellowAutumnSet

I designed YellowAutumn mittens and headband. For the decoration I used two Single Cable chains. The yarn is Drops Air mix yarn (65% alpaca, 28% polyamide, 7% merino wool) ( 50g = 150m).

The mittens and twisted cross headband make a perfect match together. They are for the Yule 2026. My mother-in-law will have these then. 

YellowAutumnMittens

I designed and knit these beautiful Yellow Autumn mittens. They are decorated by single cables. I used Drops Air mix yarn (65% alpaca, 28% polyamide, 7% merino wool) ( 50g = 150m). I kind of like it. It has a special structure and it feels very soft. These are not for me.

CandyBlueSet

Previously I showed you Dutch Heel NoO (plain) woollen socks I made. I used hand dyed no logo 100% merino wool which I received as a gift from a friend. I had only 50g of it. It was enough for the toddler socks but some was still left after finishing. That's why I designed and knit Aran toddler mittens too. Aran as a souvenir from my Dublin journey in March 2025.

They make a perfect match. I plant dyed the pink yarn  by cochineal. The yarn is 100% wool I inherit from my grandmother that passed away in 2010. I still have it a lot! I have made KnittedGloves No1 and  KnittedGloves No2 of it.

BlueBabyMittens

For the Finnish Train Socks I knit just a basic model baby mittens. For the mittens I used the same StoorStålka áhkko yarn (100% wool) (50g = 225m) than I did for the socks. When you wear the woollen mittens under padded ones you get a set that protects your fingers against any minus degree!

TinyMittens

I designed and knit tiny mittens. Actually, I made these last spring but forgot to post about them. I used the left over yarn from the green BubbleSet. The yarn is Sublime's lustrous extra fine merino dk yarn (67% extra fine merino wool, 33% nylon) (25g = 95m) in 335 Peridot (green), 291 Hush (very light pink) and 294 Folie (pink). 

Felt Mittens No2

 

Earlier in January 2023 I designed and knit Felt Mittens No1. Since that I have designed and knit 4 more pair of mittens. The difference is in the wrist decoration. The yarn is the same old Schachenmayr's special edition Wash+Filz-it! Fine Multicolor yarn (100% virgin wool) (100g = 200m). I felt them in washing machine (40  Celsius degrees, 1200 rpm). See the pics below how they all turn out. 

PinkBabySocks

 

I designed and knit tiny FairIsle style woollen socks for my GrandDaughter. I used Novita's Natural Collection Merino 4 ply yarn (100% merino wool) (50g = 230m).

Actually, the finished pair was just exactly her size. So, I opened the toe parts and knit one FairIsle decoration stripes for each sock and ta-dah, the socks turn out bigger. This is, by the way, excellent idea to make socks for babies and toddlers. They don't walk so much yet or at all, when wearing the woollen socks. But they grow fast. If you need to save your time (and yarn) this is an excellent way to make bigger socks.

For the baby and mom. These are already in use. AAW Mittens No6 I knit earlier. I am not a pink person but these pink shades I like. The shades are rather sugar dust covered candy pink than bright, pastel or neon pink.

Felt Mittens No1

I designed and knit felt mittens. I used Schachenmayr's special edition Wash+Filz-it! Fine Multicolor yarn (100% virgin wool) (100g = 200m). I felt them in washing machine (40  Celsius degrees, 1200 rpm).

Isn't it just beautiful yarn! The mittens are not to meant look the same. Very simple design for a special yarn.

AAW Mittens No6

 

I designed and knit simple plain mittens of AAW (50% our own ethic produced arctic angora wool, 40% ethic produced FinnSheep wool and 10% nylon) (100g = 238m). I made two pairs in two different size. They both have similar amount of stitches. I just used knitting needles size 2,5 mm for one and size 2,75 mm for the other. Such a small difference in the needle size create even visible difference in the practical and actual size.

Kuolajärvi - Karpalo

I designed and knit another set including mittens and woollen socks to respect my family history and connection to Kuolajärvi region and rise awareness of Forest Sámi people.  Karpalo (= cranberry) is the 2nd released design of Kuolajärvi collection. 

Later on, somewhere in the future, when the time is right, there will be proper pictures and instructions/patterns available also for this design. The collection will be suitable for all who want to respect Forest Sámi people, their cultural heritage and surviving. Kuolajärvi collection will be the one everyone can wear no matter the ethnicity. It is made for the respect and rise awareness.

Kuolajärvi - Ensilumi 2

I designed and knit Kuolajärvi Ensilumi mittens and woollen socks in April 2022. Finally today you can see the pic of the whole set. YoungLady received them as her Yule gift and they are in use now. I have not finished the tutorial yet but here's how they look. Very pretty indeed! 

Kuolajärvi - Ensilumi 1

This is my own design. It is a set which includes mittens and woollen socks. The collection is designed to respect my family history and connection to Kuolajärvi region and rise awareness of Forest Sámi people.  Ensilumi (= first snow) is the 1st released design of Kuolajärvi collection. Unfortunately, you see now only the mittens despite I've finished also the woollen socks. How naughty is that, but I do this to avoid copyright insults, meaning to prevent someone to copy it and start to spread around on internet. Later on, somewhere in the future, when the time is right, there will be proper pictures and instructions/patterns available. The collection will be suitable for all who want to respect Forest Sámi people, their cultural heritage and surviving. Until then, get excited! 😄

In February I knit TraditionalDecoratedMittens. Now I've finished the woollen socks with the same -our own- Sámi tribe decoration. The traditional decoration pattern is designed by Kirsi Mukkala. I've designed the mitten and woollen sock patterns.

This set is going to be a gift for my dear husband.

I just finished a pair of mittens. The mittens are just basic ones. The traditional decoration is designed by Kirsi Mukkala. She has brought it to a knitting pattern from our traditional Sámi Costume Design. So please, even you could knit similar from the picture, please don't do it, because it is our traditional cultural costume. The figure and shades of the stripes are like our logo, trademark or brand. It separates us from the others, even from other Sámi tribes.
