CatHammock

Yesterday I told you how YoungLady brought something with her in December. It was a round metallic frame which is a part of her huge cat tree. One of its hammocks' fabric part had worn out and broken in the hard use. I decided to use the left over material from Siejddemuorrâ. I designed it and first I crocheted the round and made some decoration for it.

Then I added macrame threads and started to work with it. I was guided not to make it too high and not to add anything playful (wooden beads or balls) with it to make sure it lasts longer. 

I started with the crochet, continued with macrame and in the half way made the pillow and the finished the macrame with the pillow to see the form better.

The pillow looks a bit too fat because the filling is plump up. The pillow and the filling will flat down when the cats have slept on it for a while. 

Siejddemuorrâ

This is my own design and piece of textile art Siejddemuorrâ - Seitapuu - Seita Tree. Seita is a sacred place of Sámi people. Seita can be for example a stone or tree. But not any stone or tree. You need to know more about the culture to understand which stone or which tree is seita. So, in practical some seitas are marked even on maps as an ancient monument or landmark. But most are not. When I meet seita in the nature I always salute seita and if possible leave something to seita.

In these pictures in my blog you can't see all of Siejddemuorrâ. It includes also a sacrificial table under it. The table is made of drift tree and is placed on the floor. All together as a complete piece of art and cultural object it needs open floor place where the seita can freely hung from the ceiling. So, it needs at least 3m high open floor place (modern architecture will be just fine). Siejddemuorrâ is made of different kind of yarns, glass beads, salmon vertebra, wood and metal. It includes a lot of cultural information which I will explain to the buyer if the one is a private person and unfamiliar to our Sámi culture but wants to support our cultural work and leaves the contact information for me to get in touch. (We don't get any funding from the government of Finland, Sámi Parliament of Finland or any business.)

In my previous blogpost I announced the price 5000 € for this piece of art Siejddemuorrâ. In July Siejddemuorrâ will be shown and on sale at Lyylin Salonki, Salla, Finland. It is open from Monday to Friday, weekends closed. Lyylin Salonki takes 10% commission from the sales so there the price will be 5500 €. It is a local small business so it needs to get some profit. We (me and my siida) are still planning to get Siejddemuorrâ at public place but if and when it will be sold I will use the money to publish my book. 

When visiting the exhibition at Lyylin Salonki you can bring your own gift to seita and place it on its sacrificial table.

Siejddemuorrâ is already in Salla. This week I took it and two Sámi costumes to Salla for the Forest Sámi Summer Expo 2025. Instead of staying at friends my mom wanted to test some cottages for the upcoming SummerExpo so she rent a cottage at Sallatunturin Tuvat. She was quite satisfied with the cottage and service so she has rent it again for the summer expo. I have nothing to complain about it but I need to say I loved its sauna!!!! The sauna was clean, able to be set hot (or cold) enough easily and the spirit was right!

Macrame Jar Cover No3

I designed and made one more macrame jar cover. This one too is a variation of a common and universal jar cover. This one is made to be a window lantern. I used Lankava's Minimop yarn that is made of recycled cotton (80%) and polyester (20%) (700g = 490m) for this little project.

Always follow the fire safety with the candles. I use led-candle inside this jar to avoid it all get too hot.

I designed and made another easy & simple macrame jar cover. Also this is a variation of a common and universal jar cover design. Macrame Jar Cover No1 you can see here. For this one I used Novita Natural Collection 's Cotton Feel yarn (50g = 120 m) (50% brand new cotton, 50% recycled cotton). It is the same shade and yarn I used in Leaf.

Macrame Jar Cover No1

I designed and made an easy & simple macrame jar cover. It is a variation of a common and universal jar cover design. 

I used Lankava's Minimop yarn that is made of recycled cotton (80%) and polyester (20%) (700g = 490m).

Because the yarn includes 20% polyester, it may get too hot easier than 100% cotton. Always follow the fire safety with the candles. I use led-candle inside this jar to avoid it all get too hot.

FriendshipBracelet

Las summer I made some friendship bracelets. When I found the pics I realized I forgot to post about them! For this one I used wool yarn.

For these ones I used waxed cotton cord and recycled wooden beads.

They are my own design Sámi friendship bracelets!

XmasElf

This simple macramé Christmas elf doesn't need any special pattern or design. You see this design a lot on internet and magazines. I did it without any instructions. I used recycled wooden ring -similar with the angel- as the base to do the beard and insert the hat. Inside the hat I used cardboard as a base around which I made the red yarn knots. This is easy, fun and fast to make. Also, it is low cost and you can use your left over yarn -like I did. Just think about it with a grey beard and white hat.... 😃

Angel

I designed and made this macramé angel as a sample for my students. It is easy design even for beginners. I used Novita's Natural Collection Cotton feel yarn (100% cotton, of which 50% is recycled) (50g = 120m) in three different shades (pink, pale pink and brown).

You can do the angel hair in many ways. I just left it open and free. I used recycled wooden ring around which I created the angel. 

Pöllö

Once upon a time there was an owl... and now it is forever. This macrame owl is my own design. I used recycled beads (plastic and wooden) for the project. The yarn is Novita's Natural Collection Cotton feel yarn (100% cotton, of which 50% is recycled) (50g = 120m).

PinkBracelet

My own design macrame bracelet. Very easy and budget. I used plastic beads and Madeira metallic thread (no. 10, Color 313). This is very simple and easy design and in the half way started to remind me about tatting. 

MorePlantHangers

I needed to design and make two more plant hangers for my two more Schlumbergeras. Also for these I used Lankava's Paulina eco-friendly chunky twine yarn (80% recycled cotton, 20 % polyester) (1 kg = 170-180 g) (diameter 5 mm). The wooden round decorations are old recycled wooden curtain hangers. The wooden beads are from the old plant hangers I replaced by these new ones. 

Crystals

Since last May I have wanted to do this micro-macrame crystal hanger. I designed it already in last March, bought the crystals at outdoor & hunting expo Oulu May 2023 and been waiting for the final action because it needs a bit quiet concentration. The yarn is DMC perlé no 8 so it is very fine and thin, perfect even for bobbin lace!

Schlumbergeras

I have very old Christmas cactus. I received them 27 years ago when having my first baby. My wish was not to bring flowers into the hospital but taking house plants into our home. My great-mother-in-law gave us four Christmas cactus babies from her very old plants. Which means she had them as big plants already at early 70´s. My cactus have survived from baby attacks, toddler attacks, dog attacks, cat attacks and arctic polar nights. That is something incredible for such exotic plants. And, despite of all the sufferment they bloom every year with joy.

My Schlumbergeras needed new plant hangers. They had old ones which were made for two plants. It´s time to separate them all into individual flower hangers to provide them all more light. I already made two macramé flower hangers. Two more to go. For the decoration I used recycled wooden curtain hangers. For macramé I used Lankava's Paulina eco-friendly chunky twine yarn (80% recycled cotton, 20 % polyester) (1 kg = 170-180 g) (diameter 5 mm). Both flower hangers are different and my own design. 

Leaf

Weird but true: I never published any macrame craft on my blog. Wow! It is time to change that. I designed and made this macrame leaf. It is going to be apart of a bigger class room project at work.

The actual shade is closer the truth on the picture above than on the 1st pic of this post. It is like autumn leaf or burnt orange. 

The height of the leaf is approx 20 cm but I'd like to make it mini size too. For this project I used Novita Natural Collection 's Cotton Feel yarn (50g = 120 m) (50% brand new cotton, 50% recycled cotton). Wooden parts are recycled.
