SalmonChiengora

I designed and knit these traditional style mittens. First I collected the dog wool (chiengora), then I spun with Liinu the 100 % arctic dog wool yarn (Aran). After that I went into the woods to pick up mushrooms to plant dye the yarn. Only after that I was able to start the knitting. 

I designed also a special style scarf and knit also it. After finishing also the scarf I needed to wait a day with a bit of snow and light to be able to make these photos for you to show it. It really has been what we call the slow craft!

They make a great matching pair. And for sure they are extremely warm. They also include the wool from our dear dogs and the attitude of FashionNOW. Really local and eco-friendly clothing.

The shades are beautiful Salmon and Pale-Salmon. Plant dye is fun because at the end all the yarns and individual plants act in a different way!

TubeScarf

I made a 100 % merino wool tube scarf for myself. I had one last winter. I visited at Oulu Theater and lost it there. It was with my jacket when I left it at the secured jacket service but it never returned. Merino wool tube scarves are pretty expensive: 25-30 €. That's why I started to find out how much it would cost to sew one.

I ordered some merino wool fabric from Germany because in Finland it is so creepy expensive. I was not quite sure which I liked and how it would turn out. At the end I made many merino wool tube scarves. These will be gifts for the family. 

You must be curious to read how much the home made merino wool tube scarf cost. 7€ for one!!! It doesn't take many minutes to cut and sew it. If you can sew, it is easy to save 20€ per one merino wool tube scarf. It really is the beginner level project!

SilverScarf

I designed and crocheted a very simple & soft scarf. It is not for me. It is made of DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk yarn (77% alpaca, 23% silk) (25g = 140m). If you are allergic to lanolin (sheep wool has it a lot) or itch easily, alpaca and silk are perfect options for you.

I designed a new project and bought some Novita Elegia yarn (62% cotton, 35% acrylic, 3% polyamide) (150g = 443m) for it.

I crocheted GrannySquares of it and attached them to each other in a line. 

I finished the outside edges by Wetterhoff's Sivilla yarn (30% silk, 70% wool) (50g = 250m).

Sivilla is loose end yarn from my Knitted collar project. 

I love how the shades variage in the scarf because of the Elegia yarn. 

The scarf is a gift for the Christmas 2020.

OOW BabyScarfNo1

First OOW (OurOwnWool) scarf is here. It is a prototype and baby size.

After finishing it I washed it.

Pegs are enough to load on some weight...

Washing makes it even more soft and fluffy.

Pampula scarf

Some time ago I bought some special yarn only to try it out. Just being curious how to work with it. It is Novita's pampula yarn. I included also informative knitting pictures. Thre's no special instructions how to hide the ends of the yarn so I used crocheting needle for it.

This scarf is made of Novita's pampula yarn (shade 893, 78% acrylic and 22% polyamide). The design is Novita's too and instruction for the scarf comes with the bobbin. You mainly see only these scarfs made of this yarn but nothing stops you to get creative and find your own ways to use it. You start the work just by picking up 8 "holes" on the knitting needle and there you go.

It is a boa scarf.

 

Scarf -tutorial

I am not feeling lazy anymore so here is some pics for you! This is an old wool that I heritaged with many others. This one includes 35% wool and 65% polyacrylic. It is white and weights 250g.


It is my own design  but very easy to knit it and I bet many people have knit a scarf like this before. I am sure that also a beginner can do it.

I started with 10 stitch, added 1 at the end of every 4th round/turn until I had about 60-65 stitches (can't remember exactly).  But you can make it as wide as you want; bigger or smaller.

Then I started to take in 1 stitch at the end of every 4th round/turn until I had again 10 stitches left which I cast off.

And then I cut the tassels using a DVD box as good measurement. I twine the thread around the box and cut off from one side. Then I finished the scarf by fastening these threads to hang from the two edges that form the triangle of the scarf.

This finished scarf weights 98g so it doesn't take a lot of thread to make one. I had 250g ball of it so there's plenty of thread left for another scarf. We'll see who is going the get that. :)

This scarf will be sealed into a package and will be sent away. To be honest, new scarf -but from another thread- is already in the half way. :)
