Lessons In Wild

Last weekend was very special to our Dog. She turned to 1 year despite she has not lived with us for 2 months yet. For the 1st time we took her deep into the woods. We went into the wilderness where big boys hunt. Daily she gets into the woods on her walk; but that is different compared to this. Our daily forest walks are more like having fun at the city park if we want to make clear the difference between this and that.

Nuka needed to learn to use one more harness. I am VeryDemandingMom. They say you can not tell dog to stop pulling if it needs to know how to pull too. I disagree. Each one of my dogs have learnt both; to pull and not to. Nuka knows already how to act in normal dog collar. She knows how to act in normal dog harness. She knows how to walk in Anti-Pull harness. (I always use this type because it is fair to the dog and allows the dog act in natural way. Like in every training, be gentle handed, when you start it.) And now Nuka needed to learn one more lesson. How to act in sled dog X back harness.

Believe me, she has learnt it all and it doesn't load any stress on her. Instead she actually seems to think it is more clear in this way. She can do it all and now when she knows all these 4 types to harness her she immediately knows what we want her to do. It avoids confusion and misunderstanding. Fair indeed.

Well, there was one more lesson too. Easy one. When ever she finds a fire place in the wilderness it means F O O D. Also for her. Yep, that's her sausage. She watched all the time I roasted it for her on the open fire. Yep, the open fire was just 20 cm far away from my socks and no, she didn't burn herself. By instinct she knew to stay away from it.

Nuka was learning also to track. Training was easy. Actually I didn't need to teach her at all. She found it and followed it. And helped out Young Lady to get through all that snow. The rope is special home made pulling rope that is flexible. That's fair to both; the puller and the one being pulled.

It was pretty exhausting but they wanted to do it also without skis.

It was nice weather to ski. He kindly opened the way by his forest skis to us.

The wilderness looked very pretty and silent but there were mooses very close to us; hiding in the silence.

During the weekend Nuka was taken also to the Sea Ice. To learn more how to behave when pulling. Meaning there needs to be a bit sense in pulling; like in walking. The dog needs to go there where you want to. It can not wander around. The wide open white world was a bit scary and confusing when everything else but white disappeared. But she survived and learnt again one more thing; how to track HerSelf back home!
