It is Father's Day to come so I designed and knit a pair of long woollen socks for my father-in-law. He is a hunter and loves long woollen socks I knit for him every year: either for the Father's Day of Christmas. I usually knit easy designs which I can perform almost eyes closed to be able to concentrate on lectures or something else at the same time. 

What is special in these socks is the material. I used OOW (25% arctic dog wool and 75% Finnsheep wool) for the legs of the socks. The stripes of the legs and the yarn for the other parts of the socks is Novita's 7 Veljestä yarn (75 % wool, 25% polyamide) (100g = 200m).

My parents-in-law gave me an excellent energy saving tip. It is a fan you can place on an iron stove or fire place. See, the heat rises up. When you place the fan right above the fire place, the fan prevents the heat to rise up to the ceiling of the room. Instead of rising up the heat stays on the height you live in the room. The fan also circulates the heat better. This makes you to need less firewood. That saves the energy, your money and trouble, not to mention the nature resources. This small fan cost 39€ and seems to be worth of every penny.

My chimney sweeper gave me another excellent energy saving tip. I don't know what it exactly is called in English but you can see it on the video and I try to explain anyway. He told us to place "fire tiles" inside our fire burning stove's oven. They are special tiles that bear a strong heat. They are not expensive. I bought 10 and they cost all together 35€ here in Finland. I assume them to be lot cheaper elsewhere. Now the temperature rises up slower in the oven but the heat stays longer in the whole fire place after the fire has burnt. Of course I can't use the oven for big pot cooking anymore but here's just two of us humans left anymore so that's ok. We didn't full fill the oven. We left some space there to cook something small.

We have had these two things in use now for couple of days and I already can notice the difference. We burn the fire wood on the evenings and mornings. It usually is chilly on the mornings -after the long polar night- but not similar anymore.

Notice the fire safety. Use only the items designed for the iron stove and fire place use! Notice that annual visits of the chimney sweeper are an important part of the fire safety!

Bib

I made a bib for my grand daughter. This was a sudden need so I used the material I had in the house. Because of my location I need to have a stash for my sudden projects. The white color for a baby bib is not so desirable but it is Swedish army snow camo fabric. If it is ok for big boys, why not for small girls. It is durable, washable and it has water and dirt repelling surface and lining. 😃

This is an old design. I once, when my own daughter was small, bought a bib from a shop as I noticed it's design was great. I draw the pattern of it before the use. The bib was durable so I actually never needed to sew a new one. I still have the original pattern and I need it now.  

SámiBandWeaving

Lately I've been back on craft. I am slowly progressing on Sámi band weaving. This is a traditional design of my Forest Sámi tribal costume. The band is for men to tie up their shoes to prevent the snow get in. This will be my husband's Christmas gift. Don't tell him. 😉

YogaMatBag3

I received beautiful Indian ribbons as a gift from a dear friend. I decided to make a bag for my yoga mat and decorate it by the ribbons. For the bag I used left over fabric from YoungLady's dress lining.

The cord is from a gift wrapping but 100% functional for this. Also the cord lock is recycled from outdoor clothing.

Every time I use my YogaMatBag I carry the memories of YoungLady and my dear friend with me. I love this kind of story products.
