I have used fabric shopping bags for 25 years. I remember, when I started to use them, other people stared at me in the shops like a freak. Usually they wondered if I had no money to buy a plastic shopping bag. Well, I have saved for about 400€ by now by using fabric shopping bags. But I have saved much more nature resources and amount of the waste. I still have some of the oldest bags in use.
To be honest, slowly, year by year, as you have noticed, more people are using everlasting shopping bags. Someone always must be the first. I was not the first one to use a fabric shopping bag at a food shop but for sure I was that in small northern villages. Despite there was a time when the plastic bags were not even invent yet and people used fabric bags or baskets, at my time, 25 years ago, people had forgot it. Sometimes I felt embarrassed because of the stares and questions, but I always held my head high up and kept my mind. And see, now it is a fashion! I was just 25 years too early. But I am happy, I was right and a good example.
