In July I was invited to Lutherian Church confirmation of my GodSon. In Lutherian church you are baptized as a new born baby (usually as few months old) and given the name at the same time. Of course you can be baptized at any age. When you are 14 you can start the confirmation school. The teenagers usually spent the year going to it approx every Sunday. Then they attend of the confirmation camp for about week usually on the summer time on the year they turn to 15 years. And right after the camp they choose will they be confirmed to their Lutherian religion or not. When they choose the confirmation they attend the confirmation service right after the confirmation camp in their home church. The Lutherian church and service is open for all but parents invite the teenager's Godparents to join the service where they bless the GodChildren.
Traditionally in Finland none who was not able to speak Finnish could not be confirmed to the Christian religion because they were not able to learn the religious texts and answer to the religious exams which all were in Finnish. And only the ones who were confirmed to the Christian religion were allowed to get married in Christian churches. And in the old times that was the only way to confirm the legal marriage. So, the baptizing as a child was not enough. You needed to confirm your religion obviously to proof you have denied the paganism and your own traditional Sámi language which was considered as a language of Devil himself according to the priests and authorities.
This caused the dilemma that you were actually blackmailed by the Christian church to be able to get legally married or have a better social position in the Christian society that pressed Sámi people in many -unfortunately also cruel ways. But also because of this Christian church actions and blackmailing, girls education has always been involved on Finland's education system. Still, it doesn't excuse or wipe away the cruelties the priests did when chasing Sámi people and forcing them under the Christian church power and rules. This is how Sámi people adopted western and Christian double standards.
Sámi people had many Gods so one more Christian was easy take into the group of all these others. Sámi people learnt to hide their language and culture from the priests and authorities. Unfortunately treachery was born and the ones following the traditional religion and culture were exposed to the priests and authorities. So, that's why we Sámi people who were still following the traditional religion and culture learnt to hide it better. Still, in the danger to be exposed and discriminated.
In Finland the Christian churches have apologized Sámi people for these actions. They invite every other Sámi tribes but not ForestSàmi for these events. That's why ForestSámi people still see the Christian churches have not apologized for ForestSámi who still today suffer most of these actions especially because of the loss of our spoken Sámi language. And because we lost our spoken language we are not allowed to vote at Sámi Parliament.
In June because of Poor Pii my summer plans turn upside down and I needed to cancel most of my summer plans. But I did go to the ForestSámiSummerExpo2025 and my GodSon's confirmation service and the party. I also went to see this amazing brooch that was found in Kemi in June. It was set on display at The Museum of Torne Valley in Tornio for July. After that the brooch has traveled to The National Museum of Finland, Helsinki for further investigations.
