CreteDream (part3)

When your travel with your laptop or smartphone it is wonderful to be able to have live connection with your family and friends at home. But sometimes it can be very tricky. My laptop started to think I was Greek/Cretan...

But I didn't mind because there was FreshCreatanCherries...

...and local goat milk GreekYogurt with local thyme honey available. In that situation who could be bothered because of artificial intelligence mistakes!?

(For some weird reason local yogurt didn't cause troubles for persons with lactose intolerance... You can try it out without worries!)

(Yogurt may contain traces of gluten or gluten itself but when you get it straight delivered from a local farm you are lucky and it really has nothing extra on it.)

On a holiday you need a good book. My choice was Life of Pi by Yann Martel (in Finnish). For everyone who want to read it I advice to see the film at first. The story is multilevel with deeper thoughts. Or you can read the book of course twice to get another aspect to it. But why Life of Pi is excellent choice for CreteHolidayBook? Because of the turtles and sea.

TheSea is great around Crete. MediterraneanSea is so much different than my BalticSea and its Gulf of Bothnia here at home.

From Rethymno to the east lays beautiful 20 km long sand beach under the MediterraneanSun. You can also find fascinating stones on the beach. The beach is not full built. You can find tourist centers and great services by it but also lonely coves and quiet places where local people go to swim. Where ever you decide to swim one thing is for sure: it is wonderful!

Best thing to buy is a pair of swimming shoes for everyone. The sand is hot! Shoes also protect your feet from...

...sea urchins. They don't hurt you on purpose, it is just because if you happen to step over them. Think how You would feel when someone would crash You under his giant foot! They are animals and belong into the sea. They prefer rocky places so you can swim there where is more sandy if you want to avoid the meeting with them.

You also need sunscreen; a lot and strong. There really is sunny and hot, that's for sure. It was nice how local people reminded us having it and using it. Every now and then they also reminded us to drink water. Perhaps our pale and ghost like skin told them that we are not used to sun and heat. :)

Sunscreen protects your skin from burning and melanoma. UV radiation can cause also other symptoms than sunburn. YoungLady had SolarUrticaria but thanks to local people and their friendly advice we soon found ourselves at a pharmacy to get help for it and it all started to heal very fast like you can see from the pic above.

(Because it was just +1 C degrees when we left home and started our journey to Crete we really had no change to show a bit sun to our skin. It was far too cold for that. Last time our skin saw sun before Crete was on August 2016!)

At the pharmacy we got good advice to protect ourselves from the sun. To stay under the umbrella was a really good one...

...but as important was not to be afraid of the sun. When you are protected you can enjoy! And we really did. Despite on one day it was +41 C I didn't complain because I knew at home it will be different.

Renting sun chairs and umbrella for a whole day was not expensive. For 3-4 persons it was 5-10€ depending on the place, day and weather. You can also buy your own ones and carry them with you. We found renting them easiest and simplest. Also in that way we could support local economics even better.
