Ermine

saLK puoidâ [puoita], saIK puoide [puoite]

The 1st door of our language Advent Calendar is open by an ermine, puoidâ/puoide, the white soot-tail of the winter.

In the winter season, ermine uses hollows and tunnels under and in the snow but every now and then it is seen hopping and frolicking over it. Previously ermine was a valuable fur animal and hunted a lot. Nowadays, the worst enemies of ermine are foxes, weasels, and predatory birds. The witty ermine is a fast hider and only random caught. In many homes ermine is welcome as a good friend because it is efficient catcher and keeps the mice and voles away.

Kärppä

saLK puoidâ [puoita], saIK puoide [puoite]

Kielikalenterimme ensimmäisen luukun avaa kärppä, puoidâ eli puoide, talven valkea nokihäntä. 

Talvella kärppä liikkuu usein onkaloissa lumen alla, mutta nousee välillä myös hangelle loikkimaan. Aiemmin kärppä oli arvokas turkiseläin ja sitä pyydystettiin ahkerasti. Nykyisin kärpän pahimpia vihollisia ovat ketut, näädät sekä petolinnut. Sukkela kärppä on kuitenkin nopea piiloutuja ja niinpä saalistaja saa sen kiinni vain harvoin. Kärppä on monessa talossa tervetullut väärti, sillä se on tehokas pyytäjä, joka pitää hiiret ja myyrät poissa nurkista.

Forest Sami Finland language calendar: Kemi Sami vocabulary till the 24^th of December!

Forest Sami language calendar has been created with the cooperation of our language team. The team has reconstructed the vocabulary for the calendar by the foundations of Kemi Sami language remains, known grammar and the changes of phoneme/pronouncing.

Basing on the historical Sami dialects the work for the language education has been started. Basing on Kittilä Sami and Sodankylä Sami has been reconstructed Western Kemi Sami (saLK) dialect. Basing on Sompio Sami, Savukoski Sami and Kuolajärvi Sami has been reconstructed Eastern Kemi Sami (saIK) dialect. The abbreviations before each Sami word inform which dialect the individual word represents.

The team is working to revert Kemi Sami language as spoken.

Suomen metsäsaamelaisten kielikalenteri, keminsaamelaista luontosanastoa joulukuun 24. päivään saakka!

Metsäsaamelaisten kielikalenteri on luotu yhteistyössä kielityöryhmän kanssa. Ryhmä on rekonstruoinut kalenterin sanaston keminsaamen kielijäämistön (keminsaamen eri murteiden kirjalliset muistiinpanot, saamelaisperäiset paikannimet ja murresanat), tunnetun kieliopin ja äänteenmuutosten pohjalta.

Historiallisten saamenmurteiden pohjalta on rakenteilla opetettavaan kieleen kaksi päämurretta: kittilänsaamen ja sodankylänsaamen pohjalta rakennettu länsikeminsaame (saLK), sekä sompionsaamen, savukoskensaamen ja kuolajärvensaamen pohjalta rakennettu itäkeminsaame (saIK). Lyhenteet kalenteriluukkujen luontosanojen edellä kertovat, kumpaa murretta kukin sana edustaa.

Työtä kielen palauttamisen eteen tehdään koko ajan.

Collar for Skater

I designed and knit a collar for Christmas. It is for a figure skater princess to keep the neck area warm in practice before the show. I decorated it by crocheting the lower edge.

I used Novita's 7 veljestä Lapintaika yarn for the knitting. (100g = 200m) (75% wool, 24% polyamidi, 1% polyester). I love the whisper of bling bling in the yarn.

More stripes

This pair of woollen socks is thank you gift from our dogs to a hunter who brought them moose bones this autumn. The base yarn is Novita's 7 Veljestä yarn (75 % wool, 25% polyamide) (100g = 200m). For the light shade stripes I used OOW (25% arctic dog wool and 75% Finnsheep wool

Memories

Oh, just look what I found when seeking spare clothes. It is a tiny baby mid season outdoor overall. I made this for my 1st one 25 years ago!

It is decorated by tiny left over pieces of fabric I received as a gift for my baby. Amazing that jungle style and even brown is in fashion again! WOW!

Both of my children used this. We had so many bike trips across the wild nature in fresh weather. The overall is loose enough to fit woollen clothes under.

If I remember it right the pattern is from some magazine but I had to adjust it a lot to make the puzzle out of the tiny fabric pieces. I spent hours with it but still am satisfied with the result.
